i currently live in a house built in 1913 on 6/10 of an acre of land in a small town in maryland. i started this blog because i like backyard discoveries. there is much to be found in a small place if you look close enough. but also–i am particularly interested in the relationships between land, body and memory.
to measure something is to subject it to a point of view. but a monument, a representation, or a map is not the same as the real thing. what is the difference?
we learn from the myth of Osiris “to measure a god is to trap him in a physical form, to limit his essence and prevent change” (Pollack). to stop changing is to die (and even then, the once-alive components are regenerated into other living things).
what i’m trying to say is maps are sometimes helpful to figure out where we are but they are first of all subjective and they are nothing compared to the actual lived essence of a place/body.
as for me, i’m a 22 year old cancer with an appreciation for classical music, obsolete or imaginary technology, spacial organization, and reading in bed. i am a descendant of dr. griggs, the man who, during salem witch trials, diagnosed reverend samuel parris’ daughter and niece as suffering from demonic possesxsion. i am soon to be a farmer. i also really like to dance.
